Why Britney’s MTV Performance Sucked

We all knew Britters wasn’t entirely “clean” when she went on stage to perform her new track, Gimme More, at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night, but we can now confirm that she was, at the very least, suffering the ill-effects of too much alcohol. ÂÂ
According to a source, Spears turned up to the show “late, unprepared and with an [alcoholic] drink in her hand.” ÂÂ
Brits had already paddled half-way up shit’s creek the day before the awards were set to take place, when she flaked out on her scheduled rehearsal time at 1pm on Saturday. A source explained: “She didn’t even get to Las Vegas until 4:30 p.m. It was ridiculous . . . The production people at MTV were freaking out . . . Nobody can tell Britney what to do anymore. No one can control her. She is a mess.”  ÂÂ
When she finally arrived in Sin City, however, the derailed singer had no intention to even turn up to rehearsal at all, instead deciding that she’d rather stuff her face with junk food and alcohol first.
“She went to her hotel room and ordered a bunch of food and some frozen margaritas,” the source said. “She came down, like, an hour later with a frozen margarita in her hand.”
Adding insult to injury, the source revealed that Spears’ “hot” dance routine was much better in rehearsal… with Brit Brit’s stand-in! ÂÂ
“The dance number was spectacular – without her,” said the source. “When the stand-in was rehearsing with the dancers, in the hours they were all waiting for her, it was amazing. Then Britney showed up and refused to do anything. The dancers were supposed to lift and twirl her in the air a few times, and that just wasn’t going to happen. The more complicated dance moves had to be erased because she couldn’t do them.”
But the nightmare didn’t end with the dancing… apparently, much of Britney’s agitation before her performance on Sunday evening had to do with her arguments with MTV over the outfit choice (and no, that horrid spangly number wasn’t supposed to see the light of day!). ÂÂ
The source explained: “MTV wanted her to wear a corset outfit. It would have looked great and covered a lot of things up, but she hated it and didn’t think it was sexy enough.”
I guess she thought flashing great heaps of whale blubber at the audience was a lot more sexy…
But seriously, it sounds as if Britney’s train-wreck performance was doomed before she even set foot in Vegas. I wonder who will bother hiring her for gigs now? I hear Walmart can set up quite a tasteful stage display… ÂÂ
