I was going to try and ignore the whole TomKat wedding thing. I figured there was enough coverage everywhere else in the known Scientology Universe for this event, but I have had queries as to why I had not covered this wonderful union, so here it is.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes exchanged Scientology wedding vows in a medieval Italian castle on Saturday, but had previously “officialized” their marriage in Los Angeles.
Fabrizio D’Agostino, a spokesman for the Church of Scientology for Rome, said an exchange of vows with a Scientology rite was not legally recognized in Italy, and that a civil union would also be required.
While the rites include rings and vows, they also include certain Scientology fundamentals, such as promising never to go to bed without communicating any differences, and no alien visitations.
Legalities aside, the US$3 million wedding in Bracciano, Italy before 150 invited guests — and with thousands of fans outside — was uniformly described as spectacular and the stuff of fairy tales.
Oil-fed torches and small candles flickered from the battlements and windows of the Odescalchi castle, which dates back to the 15th century.
Cruise went with a traditional earhtly single-breasted, navy-blue suit, not the spacesuit as would be expected.
As expected, the shows of affection went over the top, with the short 20 minute ceremony nearly being topped by the kiss at the end, with guest yelling “stop” to end it. Gross.
Fireworks went off above the castle, but a foggy night hurt the view.
Holmes gave Cruise a Vacheron Constantin watch as a wedding gift. The watch was engraved with the words “I love you.”
The two spent their wedding night in the castle and will honeymoon in Tahiti, David Caplan of Star Magazine told CTV Newsnet.
So what’s next, Katie has already had the obligatory child, the wedding has come and gone, how else to enhance the image?
