Rachelle Lefevre “Stunned, Saddened” by Twilight Recasting
Rachelle Lefevre has told of how she was “stunned” and “saddened” when she learned that she was to be replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard in the third Twilight movie, Eclipse.
Summit Entertainment said yesterday that they were forced to recast Lefevre’s role as the evil vampire Victoria due to a conflict in work schedules – Lefevre had signed on to star in the Dustin Hoffman film, Barney’s Version, which was due to begin production on the same day as Eclipse.
However, Summit Entertainment’s reasoning behind the recasting has shocked Lefevre, who said in a statement released Wednesday that she had every intention of honouring her Eclipse contract, despite signing on for the Hoffman film.
Lefevre said: “I was stunned [at the recasting]. I was fully committed to the Twilight saga, and to the portrayal of Victoria. I turned down several other film opportunities and, in accordance with my contractual rights, accepted only roles that would involve very short shooting schedules.
“My commitment to [indie flick] Barney’s Version is only 10 days. Summit picked up my option for Eclipse. Although the production schedule for Eclipse is over three months long, Summit said they had a conflict during those ten days and would not accommodate me. Given the length of filming for Eclipse, never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10-day overlap.
“I was happy with my contract with Summit and was fully prepared to continue to honor it. Summit chose simply to recast the part,” she continued. “I am greatly saddened that I will not get to complete my portrayal of Victoria for the Twilight audience. This is a story, a theatrical journey and a character that I truly love and about which I am very passionate.
“I will be forever grateful to the fan support and loyalty I’ve received since being cast for this role, and I am hurt deeply by Summit’s surprising decision to move on without me. I wish the cast and crew of Eclipse only the very best.”
Summit Entertainment have since responded to Lefevre’s comments on her recasting. To read what they had to say on the matter, click here.

Bryce Dallas Howard Signs on For ‘Twilight’ Sequel
Terminator: Salvation star Bryce Dallas Howard has just been confirmed as playing troublesome vampire Victoria in Eclipse, the third film in the Twilight series.
The former muse of movie maker M. Night Shyamalan will replace series favourite Rachelle Lefevre, 30, who has portrayed Victoria in the two previous Twilight films.
Summit Entertainment’s president, Erik Feig, said that he was thrilled to have an actress of Howard’s calibre on board for Eclipse, and is excited to see what the daughter of veteran director Ron Howard will add to the role of the series villian.
“Rachelle brought Victoria to great screen life,” Feig said, “and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character.
“The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.”
But don’t get your teeth out just yet, Twilight fans – Bryce isn’t simply replacing Lefevre to add a big name Hollywood star to the cast list, but stepping in to replace Rachelle, who has had to pull out of the third film due to a clashing work schedule.
Instead of Eclipse, Lefevre will appear in the independent film Barney’s Version, alongside movie great Dustin Hoffman, which begins production on the same day as the third Twilight installment.
New Moon, the second film in the series, is slated for release later this year.

Harry Potter Starlet Admits to Being a Twihard

Emma Watson has admitted that she’s a ‘Twihard’ – the pet name for those who are completely and utterly obsessed with the Twilight series of novels (and now films).
The Harry Potter star, who plays Potter pal Hermione Granger in the films, says that she’s in love with the vampire series and actually felt depressed when she’d finished the last novel, Breaking Dawn.
“I love [the Twilight] books,” Watson told Elle. “My friend and I read them back to back.
“This is so sad, but I literally felt depressed when I finished reading them because I thought, ‘Oh my God, what am I going to do now?’”
Perhaps Emma should petition to nab herself a role in one of the later Twilight films? I’m sure with her impressive resume, and the fact that fellow Harry Potter cohort Robert Pattinson is already involved in the vampire franchise, she’d have no trouble getting herself some screen time.

New Vampire Drama Heading to The CW

Looking to piggy back on the success of novel-turned-blockbuster-movie, Twilight, U.S. network The CW has just announced that it’s developing a pilot for a potential new series about a young high school student caught in a love triangle with two vampires.
If the plot sounds familiar, it’s because it is – but no, it’s not a cheap Twilight rip-off. In actual fact, the series is based on The Vampire Diaries, a quartet of young adult books written by Ljane Smith and first published in 1991.
The stories revolve around young Elena Gilbert, an American high school student who comes back from France and falls in love with two vampire brothers, one good, and one evil. Kinda makes Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight seem even less original that it already was.
The television series of the same name will be produced by the people behind cult series Gossip Girl, Alloy Entertainment, and run by Dawson’s Creek’s own Kevin Williamson, and with pedigrees like that running the show, there’s no doubt the pilot will be a killer hit.
With adaptations of Twilight and now The Vampire Diaries making it onto television and movie screens, I guess we can all expect the vampire craze sweeping through tweens across the globe to last well into the forseeable future.

Dakota Fanning Joins Twilight Sequel
New Moon, the sequel to 2008’s blockbuster hit, Twilight, looks set to be a star-studded event, with big names like Vanessa Hudgens and Dakota Fanning reportedly signing on in supporting roles.
If you can remember a time before all of the hype – I know, it’s a difficult task – most of the actors who joined Stephenie Meyer’s maiden film adaptation were unknowns, not because the studio wanted to pick young stars from obscurity, but because the tiny budget wouldn’t allow for the inclusion of any “big” stars.
Now, however, with Twilight’s record-breaking haul at the box office, the budget for the forth-coming sequel has skyrocketed (hence the inclusion of the big guns).
According to the rumour mill, Hudgens has been approached to play the werewolf hybrid Leah (which is unusual that she should be included, given Leah’s absence in the second book), something which has angered fans of the series, who believe Hudgens’ limited repertoire will destroy the film.
Whether the Hudgens rumour is on the level or not – and I’d say not, at this point – it’s highly likely that child star Dakota Fanning will portray the petite Italian vampire, Jane.
If Fanning does decide to take on the role of Jane, I’ve no doubt she’ll do the character justice. As annoying as her squeaky little voice can be at times, the kid can certainly act.
Though, she does have some competition in the child-vampire stakes. Kirsten Dunst’s outstanding performance as a vampire child in the cult hit Interview With a Vampire way back in Tom Cruise’s less crazy days has certainly set the bar high for Ms. Fanning. If she can top Dunst’s portrayal, she’ll be doing well.
