“Twilight” Moves Into Old “Potter” Spot

Twilight, the highly anticipated film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s hit novel of the same name, has been moved forward from its December 12 release date to November 21, the date that has just been made vacant by Warner Bros.’ rival, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

The Summit Entertainment film, directed by Catherine Hardwicke and starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Patterson in the roles of Bella and Edward, has slotted in easily to the newly vacant November slot, something which fans of the international best-selling series of novels will be ecstatic about.

Rob Friedman from Summit Entertainment said in a statement: “When Warner Bros. decided to move ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ to the summer of 2009, we saw a unique opportunity to slot in our film, which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months.”

Though the move is a smart one – Twilight has gained a massive fan-base over the past months, and sales are sure to vastly improve with the date change – Friedman was quick to discount that they were trying to fill the shoes of the Harry Potter franchise.

“We by no means are trying to fill the shoes of the incredible Potter franchise for 2008,” he added. “Rather, we are just looking to bring the fans of Stephenie Meyer’s incredible book series the film as soon possible.”

…And I just fell in love with Summit Entertainment. Warner Bros. who?!?
