Peaches Geldof to Study Scientology for the Fame

Peaches Geldof is one of those, poor, underprivileged celebrity kids that, despite having very famous parents, loads of cash and a high-partying lifestyle, isn’t actually that famous. She’s tried plenty of nifty tricks in the past to elevate her level of celebrity status: the numerous drug incidences, her shot-gun marriage to a fledgling rocker, etc, etc.

Now, however, Peaches has found the perfect way to ensure she spends the rest of her young life partying it up with New York’s “It” club – she’s going to convert to Scientology.

Yes, according to a pal of Peaches, the daughter of Sir Bob Geldof is planning to begin the necessary training to become a Scientologist like her idol, Katie Holmes, who she hopes to be bosom buddies with once she’s completed the indoctrination.

Ms. Geldof’s friend explained that Peaches became “totally smitten” with Holmes after interviewing the actress earlier in the year, and has since decided that Scientology is what she needs to make it in the world of the rich and famous.

“Peaches was very impressed by Katie, she loved interviewing her and really wanted to become friends with her,” said the pal. “She thought that taking up Scientology would be the perfect springboard to work her way into that New York clique.”

The friend added: “She knows her dad won’t be happy about it, but she feels it will help her move into bigger and better celeb circles, so she is willing to keep up with her studies to become a fully fledged Scientologist.”

Apparently Peaches Geldof is that shallow. Who knew??

Rodriguez on Madonna: “We’re Just Friends”

Yankees star baller Alex Rodriguez has spoken out for the first time on the nature of his relationship with the newly divorced Madonna.

“We’re friends,” Rodriguez told People.

When asked if there was any romantic interest at all between the pair, A-Rod repeated that age-old excuse: “We’re friends – that’s it.”

Rumours of a romance have been plaguing the Music singer and the 33-year-old Yankees star ever since it was publicly announced that Rodriguez and his wife were having “issues” with their marriage. Not long after he and Madonna were seen out together, Madonna and ex-husband Guy Ritchie’s divorce was officially announced to the press, prompting many tabloids to speculate on the nature of Madge’s and A-Rod’s relationship.

Just to reiterate his “just friends” stance, Rodriguez added: “[The rumours are] absolutely ridiculous and not true.”

Wireless Social Networks – Are You On Them?

Like nearly everyone else on the Internet, you will probably have some kind of social network account; you may even use one on a regular basis, like the hundreds of millions of others Web users, but have you ventured into the realm of wireless social networks yet?

When the 3G iPhone was released, a lot was made of the boost it would provide wireless social network use. To date, this has not quite happened, but some are forecasting big things for the medium.

iSuppli has forecast that by 2020 wireless social networks will generate $2.5 trillion in combined revenue from products, services, applications, coponents and advertising.

“Over the next 10 years, as mobile devices like smartphones become the primary channel for viewing content or accessing the Internet, social networking will move largely into the wireless realm, providing the type of ubiquitous connection that consumers are demanding,” Derek Lidow, president and CEO at iSuppli, said in an announcement Wednesday. “This event will accompany the creation of a new generation of applications that will greatly expand the appeal and utility of social networking, and will finally generate profits for the social networking industry.”

“New intuitive applications enabled by innovative technologies introduced in the timeframe from 2009 to 2015 will spur the adoption of social networking and lead to major revenue growth in this area,” he said. iSuppli analyzed social networking and found three levels of interaction for users: immediate family and close friends, extended friends, and shared interest groups. Users interact sporadically — but intensely — with extended friends through games, avatars, and general updates and information. Users with common interests communicate in ways that extend into business. The popularity of social networking in business — for trading, online collaboration, and virtual meetings — is likely to spur advancement of mobile devices equipped for content viewing and sharing, iSuppli said. Wireless devices are likely to become the primary means of communicating, accessing content, and using applications by 2018, and that will change the semiconductor and display industries globally, iSuppli predicts.

I think this is pretty much a given, you only have to look at the iPhone to see the interest and as more applications become built for it, new opportunities will open up and new ways of interacting will become the norm. After all, who wants to lug around an notebook computer, or wait until they get home to connect with their friends. I know I regularly use the iPhone to hook up with Facebook; probably more so then I do on the laptop now.

Just wait another 12 months and see what kind of mobile social networks will be available.

Since news of his shock passing first broke, friends and former colleagues of the late actor-comedian Bernie Mac have come forward with their touching tributes.

Here are just a few of those tributes, from some of Hollywood’s best and brightest…

Brad Pitt: “I lament the loss of a ferociously funny and hardcore family man. My thoughts are with [his wife] Rhonda and their family. Bernie Mac, you are already missed.”

George Clooney: “The world just got a little less funny. He will be dearly missed.”

Chris Rock: “Bernie Mac was one of the best and funniest comedians to ever live, but that was the second best thing he did. Bernie was one of the greatest friends a person could have. Losing him is like losing 12 people because he absolutely filled up any room he was in. I’m gonna miss the Mac Man.”

Don Cheadle: “This is a very sad day for many of us who knew and loved Bernie. He brought so much joy to so many. He will be missed, but heaven just got funnier.”

Seth Green: “I’m shocked & saddened. He’s a brilliantly talented entertainer whom I’ve admired for a long time. It’s truly our loss.”

Kelly Preston & John Travolta: “We are heartbroken. He will be deeply missed. He was a wonderful, kind and gentle man.”

Samual L.  Jackson: “It goes without saying that Bernie was one of the preeminent comedians of our generation. He was also an attentive husband, a great father and loving grandfather. I feel blessed to have shared years of friendship with Bernie Mac and I’m honored to have finally costarred with him in what I consider to be his finest cinematic acting achievement. My sincere prayer is that his family will be comforted by the warmth of love from all of us who knew and respected this man.”

Bernie Mac passed away early Saturday morning in Chicago from complications from pneumonia. He will be sadly missed.

Actors Drew Barrymore and Justin Long have parted ways after nearly a year together.

Barrymore’s rep announced the split to Usmagazine.com earlier today.

Back in February this year, Barrymore told Vogue magazine that she and Long were “very happy” together. “My cheeks hurt, I’m so happy,” the Charlie’s Angels star said.
