It’s a pretty bleak day in Hollyweird today.

Not long after we hear the news that Madonna and Guy Ritchie have decided to divorce, sex addict David Duchovny and his wife Téa Leoni have announced that they’ve been “separated for several months.”

The couple, who married in 1997, were hoping to keep their separation a secret for the sake of their children – Madelaine West, 9, and Kyd, 6 – but were forced to come clean about their split after Duchovny’s recent stint in rehab for sex addiction.

“In light of continuous speculation over the lives and marriage of Téa Leoni and David Duchovny, the couple has confirmed that they have in fact been separated for several months,” their statement read. “The couple had hoped to keep this separation private for the sake of their children.”

David Duchovny in Rehab for Sex Addiction

Actor David Duchovny has entered rehab to treat a sex addiction, his publicist has confirmed.

“I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family,” Duchovny said in a statement released by his lawyer, Stanton Stein.

Both Stein and Duchovny’s publicist, Flo Grace, refused to comment further, except to say that the X Files: I Want to Believe actor had committed himself “voluntarily”.

Ironically, Duchovny plays a sex-obsessed writer on the hit Showtime series Californication, which received two Emmy nominations this year. The second series of the show beings in September.

I guess that’s why he was able to relate to the character so easily…
