Shania Twain & Husband Split
Country singer Shania Twain and her producer husband, Robert “Mutt” Lange, have split after a 14-year marriage, Shania’s rep has revealed.
“Shania Twain and her husband, music producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange, are separating after 14 years of marriage,” Twain’s spokesperson Jason Owen said in a statement this morning. “This is a private matter and there will be no further comment at this time.”
Twain and Lange met and married in 1993, after a six-month courtship. They have one child together - Eja D’Angelo, six.
In 2000, after Twain’s massive success on the music scene - both pop and country - her marriage with Lange was reportedly “on the rocks.” However, the couple stayed together, and Shania retreated to Switzerland, disappearing from the pressures of public life and cutting short her rising career in the entertainement industry.
“I needed a break, physically and mentally,” Twain explained of her move. “I needed to leave behind the whole ‘Shania’ thing and be myself.”
The country singer is now back in the spotlight, working on a new solo album and a perfume line, both to be released later this year.
