Reviewing ReviewMe

I am trialling a new form of blog sponsorship called ReviewMe. Some of you may be interested in trialling it on your blogs as well.
ReviewMe provides a reasonably new advertising service, where blogs get paid for writing reviews on products or services. It differs from other services such as PayPerPost, in that you must provide a disclosure that the post is a paid, or sponsored post. This post is an example of that, as ReviewMe is actually paying me to write this post.
The disclosure can be as I have written here or as simple as “Sponsored Post”, “Paid Post”, “Advertisement” etc.
One distinct advantage for the reader and blogger with concerns of selling out to a sponsor is that the review does not have to be favourable. You can write honestly on the product or service you are reviewing.
Signing up is pretty straighforward, all you have to do is create an account, and submit your blog/s for consideration. There is a limit of 6 blogs per account, but that should be sufficient for most bloggers. You can create an account here.
Staralicious was accepted straight away, which surprised me, as I have heard that some blogs are not accepted, and celebrity blogs can sometimes be rejected by some advertisers. Once accepted, your blog will receive a rating. Here is a screenshot of the rating for Staralicious.

Now I think I made one mistake when I signed up. I submitted my RSS feed as the old feed address. I am not sure if this had an effect on the rating, but the feeds for Staralicious are managed by feedburner, so had I entered that as the feed address, I may have got a higher rating. Like I say, I am not sure if this had an effect or not, but it is probably worth considering if you are in a similar situation with your blog, as ReviewMe bases the rating and corresponding price for your blog on Alexa and Technorati rating and the number of RSS feed subscribers.
In the image above, the “Price” is how much an advertiser gets charged, with the “Payout” the amount I receive. The Ranking and Price are recalculated monthly, so there is room for improvement in payout.
After signing into my ReviewMe account, I was given the opportunity to review the service. They have allocated $25,000 for this, so get in fast if you want to get in on it.
There are pretty minimal restrictions on writing a review:
- A review to be at least 200 words long.
- A review has to be done within 48 after accepting the assignment.
- Once you have written your review, you need to enter the URL of the review in the ReviewMe control panel.
As noted earlier, the review does not have to be positive, so you are pretty free to write exactly what you feel.
I can see some positives for bloggers wishing to gain another form of revenue other than Google Adsense. I don’t know how frequently blogs such as Staralicious will get to review products or services, as typically these style of services can be geared more towards tech, gadget or shopping style blogs.
If any of you try it, let me know how you go. It will be good to compare results.
Anyway, I have just earned $30.00 for writing this. Not a fortune admittedly, but it’ll pay for the beer.
