Here’s Rachel Bilson, in her own words, as the self-confessed bossy boots talks about growing up as a fashion junkie in LA:
“I was kind of a terror when I was a little girl. I wouldn’t let any of my friends wear anything except dresses. It was pretty bad. I think back on it and my poor mom had to deal with the other girls’ moms. They’re saying, ‘My daughter was so upset. Rachel would tell them they could only wear dresses.’ It was kind of a bossy thing. Which I’m not anymore. I feel bad.”
“Growing up, I had two big influences. My mom is a huge vintage shopper. She has great taste and her very own sense of style, which is phenomenal. My aunt Julie is very into designers and took me to Barney’s my first time when I was young, and introduced me to designers. My mom had so many amazing vintage dresses. I’d always play dress-up in her closet, in beautiful ’40s dresses and amazing vintage shoes. She was always encouraging me to express myself. If I wore five things on top of each other, she’d say it’s great.”
“My mom told me a story that when I was little, she took me into Beverly Hills and took me to the Esprit store. I walked in when I was 3 years old and I looked around and said ‘Mom, this is so not my style.’ My mom likes that story.”
