Paris & Nicole Friends Again?

Reports are doing the rounds at the present, that Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are friends again, after over a year of catty fighting.
Nicole was filmed talking on the phone to the heiress, when Paris called to wish Nicole a belated 25th birthday. Nic was so excited about talking to her old friend that she dropped her phone while filling up her car with gas.
Is this the first step to a reconciled friendship for the pair, or is it more to do with the fact that the girls were told they would have to work together, after both signing up for a fifth series of The Simple Life?
