The New York City Police Department have this morning revealed new details in the death of the Knight’s Tale actor, Heath Ledger, as well as emphasizing to the press that no illegal drugs were involved in his shock passing.
According to the police, the masseuse who discovered Ledger’s dead body in a SoHo apartment called Mark-Kate Olsen’s bodyguard (a friend of the masseuse’s) twice, before finally calling 911.
While many news outlets have claimed suicide since hearing of his death, law officials are adamant that there were no “obvious signs of suicide” on the scene. There was also no illegal drugs present in the apartment, the police added. A rolled up twenty dollar bill found near Ledger has come back clean after testing, and was not used to handle any illegal substances before his death. ÂÂ
The report continues, with Teresa Solomon, Heath’s housekeeper, allegedly entering his bedroom at 1 p.m. to change a lightbulb. Solomon said that he was lying face down on the bed, covered in a sheet and clearly snoring.
According to the police, around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a housekeeper, Teresa Solomon, arrived at the apartment, at 421 Broome Street in SoHo, to do household chores. At about 1 p.m., she went into Mr. Ledger’s bedroom to change a light bulb in an adjacent bathroom; she found him on the bed face down, with the sheet pulled up to his shoulders, and heard him snoring.
Diana Wolozin, the masseuse, arrived at the apartment at around 2:45 p.m. (U.S. time), and when Heath hadn’t emerged from his bedroom 15 minutes later, Wolozin called him on his cell phone, getting no response. Thinking he was still asleep, the masseuse entered his bedroom, saw him lying there and began to set up a massage table near his bed. Wolozin tried to shake him awake, and when she got no response from this, she called Mary-Kate Olsen (who was in California at the time) to ask for advice.
Ms. Olsen told Wolozin that she would call some private security she knew in NYC and ask them to check on Ledger, but when the masseuse still could not wake the actor, she called Olsen and second time and told her she was notifying the authorities.

The 911 call came in at 3:26 p.m., with Wolozin telling them that Heath was not breathing and unconscious. Wolozin was told by the 911 operator to try to revive Ledger, but her attempts were unsuccessful.
Paramedics arrived on the scene at 3:33 p.m., where they moved his body to the floor and used a defibrillator and CPR to revive him. When all attempts were unsuccessful, Ledger was pronounced dead by the authorities at 3:36 p.m. At this time, the private security called by Olsen had arrived at the apartment, as had the New York City police.
His body was later moved from the scene and taken to the local Medical Examiner’s office, awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of his death. The initial autopsy has proved inconclusive, however, and his cause of death will not be known for at least another 10 days.
