Matthew McConaughey enjoyed a wild birthday celebration in Port Douglas early on Saturday, shouting the bar and dancing wildly to the band.

Well you don’t need to be a famous Hollywood celebrity to do that. Just go to any pub and you will find blokes doing the same thing after having a win at the races.

Matty, in north Queensland to film Fool’s Gold with Kate Hudson – was the star performer, doing an odd, chicken-like dance as he toasted his 37th birthday in the Iron Bar during the early hours of yesterday.

Clad in army cargo shorts, aplain T-shirt and thongs, McConaughey mixed with locals as he drank Coruba rum and Corona beer.

Hasn’t anyone put him onto the world famous Bundaberg Rum?

Shortly after midnight, he shouted the packed bar a round of drinks, shouting: “It’s my birthday. I just turned 37.”

Friday night drinks ended for most of the crowd at 2am yesterday, when the Iron Bar closed, but McConaughey and a few close friends were still inside at 3am.

McConaughey was lying low yesterday, with more celebrations planned last night at Port Douglas’s Courthouse Hotel, where he had booked the upstairs bar.

Co-star Hudson made her way from her exclusive beachfront apartment to the bar with a woman who appeared to be her bodyguard. She didn’t stay late and was up early, taking a private charter to the Great Barrier Reef on a luxury boat.

During her public outings, she has been glued to her mobile phone with a cigarette constantly at hand.

The latest rumour sweeping Port Douglas is that Hudson’s movie-star mother Goldie Hawn and Goldie’s partner, actor Kurt Russell, are to visit the town. [Source]
Oz seems to be getting inundated with stars leading upto Christmas.
