Lindsay Lohan Escapes Felony Charges

Yet again, the power of celebrity prevents another guilty from serving a significant stint in prison, with Lindsay Lohan escaping felony charges in her two counts of DUI and reckless driving case.
Although she has avoided a large amount of jail time, LiLo will still have to serve at least 24 hours in the slammer, after a plea deal was reached Thursday. The Mean Girls actress pleaded guilty, through her attorney, to “two counts of being under the influence of cocaine, no contest to driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 percent or higher and reckless driving.”
Given how hard Paris Hilton got it recently (23 days in prison is a lot more than the day Lindsay is set to serve!), it seems that LiLo’s been graced with an extreme amount of “special treatment” for her high profile in the media, however, the Depty District Attorney, Danette Meyers, insists that this isn’t the case.
“Lohan received the same sentence that anyone else with a second DUI conviction would get. She got no special treatment,” Meyers said.
Apparently, the mandatory term for such a conviction as Lindsay’s is a minimum of four days in jail, but they’ve decided to give her one day’s credit for time already served (I guess they mean when she was locked up off her face, huh?). The prosecutors have also agreed that instead of two of her sentenced days, LiLo could serve 10 days of community service, making sure that the actress basically gets off scot-free from her bouts of law-breaking.
Of course, Lohan did not attend her hearing in Beverly Hills, as she’s still hiding away in “rehab,” and will have until January 2008 to serve her measley sentence.
With the amount of celebrity special treatment in the prison states of late (Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Lane Garrison, Brandy…), one could almost write a book about it! It’s enough to make you sick, though, isn’t it?
