British actress Keira Knightley, most famous for her roles in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, has just revealed that she was forced to break a £20,000 designer diamond necklace on the set of her new film, Atonement, after it became stuck on her neck.
On the day of the rather costly wardrobe malfunction, filming came to a standstill for 45 minutes, as the crew desperately tried to pry the necklace away from Knightley’s bony neck. Apparently, the clasp on the expensive Chanel pendant jammed during the filming of one particular scene, and the star’s assistants had no choice but to cut the piece of jewellery in two to remove it.
Members of the crew even had to call the Chanel headquarters in Paris to gain permission to break the “specially made onyx and white gold chain” in half.
Keira explained: “I was wearing a Chanel necklace and it got stuck.”
“No one could budge it. We had to phone Chanel and ask if we could just break it. By this time the filming had come to a complete standstill.”
Coincidentally, Ms. Knightley is now starring in a new advertising campaign for fashion heavy-weight, Chanel, appearing as the face of the new fragrance, Coco Madamoiselle.
