Jessica Simpson Starts Work on Country Album
With all other areas of her career crashing and burning of late, Jessica Simpson has officially turned her sights to the world of country music, settling down to begin recording to her country album in Nashville.
Jessica told Billboard.com recently that country music has always been in her blood, and that she’s looking forward to getting back to her roots after years in under the pop music spotlight.
“I am a country girl,” she said. “I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to. I always wanted to wait until the time was right.”
That “right time” appears to be now: Jessica’s 2006 pop release, A Public Affair, was nothing more than a mediocre effort at popular music, while her latest movie, Blonde Ambition, was so terrible that it only received a limited theatrical release. To put it bluntly, Jessica really has no other option right now than to turn to country music in the hopes of salvaging her flailing career.
Not only is Ms. Simpson singing country on this new album of hers, but she’ll also be putting pen to paper and writing a few songs!
“Writing is a release for me,” she told Billboard. “It’s a way for me to tell my story. That’s not to say I wouldn’t record a song that I didn’t write. It’s just that it has been a while since I have opened the book.”
