It’s the weekend of celebrity weddings and engagements, with actor Mark Wahlberg joining the long list of newly-committed (in the romantic sense!) celebs by wedding his longtime girlfriend, model Rhea Durham, on Saturday.

The happy couple, who already have three children – Ella Rae, Michael, and Brendan Joseph – tied the knot at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Beverly Hills in front of an intimate collection of close friends and family.

The bride wore a white, strapless Marchesa dress with silver embroidery, while Wahlberg donned a classic, dark suit for the occassion.

“[Rhea] looked like a princess and beyond stunning. Mark looked ecstatic,” an onlooker said shortly after the ceremony.

Wahlberg first announced his plans to marry Durham earlier in the year, telling People.com at the time that he and his model beau were “talking about August,” but hadn’t yet decided on a location.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Engaged?

Here’s a strange one to start the morning with – Jennifer Love Hewitt got engaged on Saturday night whilst on stage at the Laugh Factory in Long Beach, California.

Yes, the Ghost Whisperer star was proposed to by longtime beau, Jamie Kennedy, on a comedy stage.

According to a source, Kennedy was nearing the completion of his two-hour comedy stint when he pulled Hewitt up on stage to tell jokes with him and sing. One of the audience members allegedly shouted out, “Marry her!” – Kennedy, of course, didn’t want to disappoint and “got down on one knee and asked [Hewitt] to marry him.”

Hewitt said yes, and there was “a standing ovation,” added the source.

If this is for real, it would have to go down as one of the more bizarre spontaneous engagments in celeb history. Congrats go to Hewitt and her man Kennedy, just in case.

Vanessa Hudgens has revealed that she’s in no rush to marry her Hollywood pin-up beau Zac Efron, insisting she’s simply too busy to settle down and start a family.

The 20-year-old, who has been shrouded in controversy over the past couple of years, told People magazine that the thought of marriage to longtime flame Efron hadn’t even crossed her mind.

“I think marriage and starting a family is great,” Hudgens said. “But I’m so focused on my career right now that it doesn’t really cross my mind.”

I guess that means Vanessa and Zac won’t be following in Kevin Jonas’ footsteps anytime soon.

Britney Spears Converting to Judaism?

Britney Spears has added fuel to the fire of the rumours of her engagement by considering coverting to Juadism, according to reports.

Spears’ boyfriend Jason Trawick is Jewish, and the pop star is so eager to show her commitment to him that she’s taken to wearing a Star of David necklace and even recruited a Rabbi to help her better understand his faith.

A source revealed: “Britney wants to try the religion Jason was brought up with.”

According to the source, Spears could be looking at tying the knot again – with Trawick – as most non-Jewish spouses only consider a conversion to Judaism before they marry someone from the faith (the most recent example of this being Aussie Isla Fisher’s conversion before marrying Sasha Baron Cohen).

What do you think: is Britney getting ready to get hitched, or is she simply looking to start the next wave of celebrity religious conversions?

The Proposal Review

The Proposal Movie

I’ve always been a bit of a sucker for the chick flicks – and Ryan Reynolds – which is why I jumped at the chance to see his new rom-com, The Proposal, with Sandra Bullock.

I’d been spoiled by the previews into thinking I was in for a bit of a laugh, and that, coupled with Reynolds’ undeniable hotness factor, meant I had pretty high expectations for a film that I knew very little about.

The premise is simple: Bullock’s character is a bitchy, sex-starved Canadian working in America as a big-time book editor who faces deportation after failing to get her visa paperwork in order. To keep her job, and her dignity, Margaret Tate (Bullock) forces her over-worked and extremely hot young assistant, Andrew Paxton (Reynolds) to marry her in exchange for a payrise and promotion.

Oh, and did I forget to mention that both Tate and Paxton loathe each other with abandon? For example, at one point, Paxton refers to Tate as ‘Satan’s Mistress.’

So it’s no surprise that a series of hilarious hi-jinxes ensues.

It all goes downhill for the not-so-happy couple when they allude to an investigator checking for possible immigration fraud that they’re heading up to Alaska to inform Paxton’s family of their surprise engagement and upcoming nuptials. Of course, now that the immigration office knows, they actually have to make the trip, and both Reynolds and Bullock shine in their task to out-do the other with sarcastic little jibes and cunningly cruel set-ups.

Paxton’s family adds another dimension of ridiculous to this cute, if not highly predictable film about opposites attracting. The grandmother alone (played by veteran actress Betty White) has some of the best lines of the movie, and her little stunt at the end literally had this reviewer close to tears – of the side-splitting, jaw-breaking variety.

The only character I thought was unnecessary was Malin Ackerman’s Gertrude, who:

1. Has an unusual name usually associated with cats, and

2. Seems to be only there to make Sandra Bullock jealous of how effortlessly beautiful she is.

Whether you’re a fan of rom-coms or not, this movie is a relative smorgasbord of attractive actors – Sandra Bullock is 40?! Geez, you could’ve fooled me! – clever and witty dialogue, and set amid some of the most spectacular scenery country Alaska has to offer.

This reviewer highly recommends it, if only for the numerous offerings of Reynolds sweaty and in the buff (or close to it!).

A closing tip: be prepared for sore jaws, aching diaphragms and a hilarity-induced tear or two.

The Proposal is now showing in cinemas across Australia.

Kendra Wilkinson Will Be Strict Christian Mother

Now that she’s left her sinful life amongst the sexpots at the Playboy mansion and made her relationship with football pro Hank Baskett official, Kendra Wilkinson is focusing all her attention on becoming a “good, Christian mother” for her unborn baby.

“Our child will definitely be Christian,” Wilkinson said last week, with hubby Baskett adding that the couple are going to be “very strict” with the little one, but will still “spoil” it on occasion.

Baskett continued: “They are going to have to earn it, we’re not just going to hand it to them. Most importantly, they have to keep good grades because school comes first and then everything else after that.

“Being a father is something I’ve always wanted and something Kendra and I have talked about from the time we met, we’re just truly excited and truly blessed to be becoming parents very soon. We pretty much fell in love right away and when you ask someone to marry you that means you really want them to be the woman in charge of your family, the person to be your teammate in raising the child.”

As well as deciding on their unborn child’s upbringing, Wilkinson and Baskett have already chosen the baby’s name, and have prepared a name for each sex, as they don’t yet know if the baby will be a boy or a girl.

“If it’s a boy [it will be] Hank the 4th,” Wilkinson explained, “and if it’s a girl Arianna, we love Arianna.”

Kendra and Hank were wed two weeks ago in the gardens of the Playboy mansion with Wilkinson’s former boyfriend and Playboy founder Hugh Hefner looking on in the audience.

Rachel Bilson and her lightsaber-toting beau, Hayden Christensen, are engaged, according to reports.

The couple, who met and hooked up while filming the 2008 sci-fi film, Jumper, got engaged over the Christmas holidays, a close friend of Bilson’s has revealed.

“They’re so excited,” the friend said. “They’re a great couple. Rachel seems thrilled beyond belief.”

No wedding date has been set as yet, the pal added.

When contacted for confirmation on the surprise engagement, reps for both Bilson and Christensen refused to comment.

“I don’t comment on my clients’ personal lives,” Bilson’s rep said.

Bilson, who got her big break in teen series The O.C., previously dated Adam Brody (another co-star!), and came close to marrying him before the pair split in 2006.

Tom Cruise Gives Spencer Pratt Marriage Advice

Tom Cruise has given marriage advice to Spencer Pratt, following his Mexican elopement last month.

Cruise told the Great Pratt that he’s made a “mistake” marrying beau Heidi Montag in an intimate, Mexican ceremony, because it wasn’t the huge wedding she’d always envisioned.

“If the girl wants the wedding, you gotta do the wedding,” Cruise said. “It’s a special occasion, and she’ll remember it forever. Spencer… dude… you’ll realise this later.”

The Pratt, however, doesn’t seem to think this will be an issue with his newly-wedded wife, and had a little message to send to Mr. Cruise: “You all know how I feel about big weddings, but if Tom Cruise says so, it must be true.”

“If Tom’s the best man, we’ll have a big wedding!” Spencer added.

Somehow I don’t think Cruise will rise to the bait, you Big Pratt!

Cruise’s Love For Katie is Real

December 5, 2008 by Amber

Tom Cruise has proved that his love for wife Katie Holmes is about as real as Heidi and Spencer’s “not-so-impromptu” wedding in Mexico last week.

The Scientologist actor admitted that he fell “so hard” for Holmes that he’d already bought an engagement ring for the Dawson’s Creek star on their first date!

“I knew I wanted to marry Kate when I met her,” Cruise told Style magazine.

And when Holmes confessed that she’s dreamt of marrying the Top Gun star when she was a little girl, Cruise said he told her, “I wouldn’t want to disappoint [you].”

Cruise purchased the whopper of a diamond “shortly” after their first date in 2005, but held on to it for some time, because, he said, he was “trying to put Katie off” the scent.

“At one point, I thought she was going to ask me to marry her first and I put her off by changing the subject.”

“I wanted to ask her,” Cruise added.

Pratt Denies Drugging Heidi

December 5, 2008 by Amber
Filed under Celebrity, Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt

The Great Pratt himself, Spencer Pratt, has denied that he drugged his newly-wedded wife Heidi Montag and tricked her into marrying him, as Montag’s mother is claiming.

Yesterday, Darlene Egelhoff (Montag’s mother) told Us Weekly that she “wouldn’t be surprised” if the Great Pratt had been forced to resort to medication in a bid to get Heidi to agree to tie the knot with him.

Spencer, however, said that it’s simply not true, and laughed at its ridiculousness.

“I am sure [Darlene] is just hurt and reacting crazy because she wasn’t there,” Spencer said.

As well as accusing him of drugging her daughter, Darlene also condemned the marriage, claiming that it wouldn’t even pass the six-month mark.

Spencer had a response ready for this, too: “I can’t wait to prove her wrong and be married for the rest of our lives.”

In reality television world, I’m sure by “the rest of our lives” the Great Pratt really means “until our contract with MTV runs out”.
