Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry’s baby girl has been named… Nahla Ariela Aubry!!!
While it’s a particularly unusual name (nothing as far-out crazy as ‘Bluebell’, I might add), it has a very distinct Disney flavour. ‘Nala’ was the name of the lioness who fell in love with Simba in the hit animated flick, The Lion King, and Ariela, of course is a take on The Little Mermaid name of Ariel.
Did Halle grow up watching too much Disney, I wonder?

Pamela Redmond Satran, the co-author of The Baby Name Bible, has a very different take on little Nahla Ariela’s name origins.
“Nahla is the Arabic word for ‘drink of water,’” Satran told UsMagazine.com. “Ariela is related to the Hebrew Ariel, which means ‘lion of god.’” It also means ‘little mermaid’!
Satran added: “Nahla is one of those names that is occasionally found among people of African or Arabic descent, but isn’t commonly used in any particular culture.”
Celebs always do seem to pick unusual, somewhat crazy names for their children… I mentioned earlier the name of Bluebell, which is of course Geri Halliwell’s little girl, and we all know about Peaches Geldof, and the more recent Shiloh Pitt.
My theory behind it all is that celebs need to feel that their children really do stand out from the rest (as if having a famous mummy and/or daddy and tonnes of cash wouldn’t do that, anyway!), so they give them a really wacky name so the fans won’t ever forget them. It works, right?
