Dr. Phil Visits BritneyÂÂ

Television host Dr. Phil McGraw has canceled the Britney Spears special that was scheduled to air this Wednesday, as he fears the situation with the mother-of-two is “too intense” at the present time.

McGraw said on his website earlier today: “As was widely reported this weekend, at the request of concerned family members, I visited Britney Spears in the hospital. The details of that visit will of coure remain private. ÂÂ

“We had planned to tape a Dr. Phil Now show today, focusing not on the tabloid side of Britney’s latest problems, but instead on the very serious issues surrounding this case. Clearly, it is not just Britney’s family struggling to find a way to protect adult children who cannot be ordered or compelled to seek help.

“Because the Spears situation is too intense at this time, and out of consideration to the family, I have made the decision not to move forward with the taping at this particular time.”

He added: “Britney and her family are in our prayers, and we ask that they be in yours.”

Dr. Phil appeared on CBS’s The Early Show this morning, telling the hosts and audience that Britney’s family were “very frustrated” that she was released from Cedars-Sinai Mecial Centre so early, given her current mental state.

Britney was sent to the centre on January 4 and held under California law’s “5150 Hold,” which requires a high-risk patient, feared to be at risk of harming themselves and/or others, to be held for 72 hours. Spears was released the very next day, just over 24 hours after being admitted, and was still said to be showing classic signs of mental distress.
