Dame Maggie Smith Battling Cancer
Just weeks after hearing the news of Patrick Swayze’s battle with cancer, The Telegraph has revealed that Dame Maggie Smith is raging a private battle against breast cancer.
“She is dealing with it in her typically brave and understated way,” a close friend told the British paper. “She has had a tumour removed and subsequently completed a course of chemotherapy. This was precautionary and the prognosis looks good. The last thing she wants to do is to make a fuss about it.”
The 73-year-old actress, who plays Hogwarts’ Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films, was so determined to not let the cancer get to her that she insisted on continuing with her filming commitments in the latest movie (Half-Blood Prince) while she was still undergoing treatment.
The friend added: “[Maggie] insisted on going ahead with filming her role as Minerva McGonagall in the latest installment of the Harry Potter series last month even as she was undergoing radiation therapy.”
We wish Maggie the best of luck with her treatment, and hope that she gets better soon.
