Britney Spears Released From HospitalÂÂ

A number of close friends of the very ill Britney Spears have come forward, revealing that the pop star has “suffered from a psychological disease for years.”

Two of the sources, who are both long-term “acquaintances” of the Spears family, admitted that while the Gimme More singer has never been “formally diagnosed” as being bipolar, there’s no doubt in their minds that she is.

“There is no question [Britney suffers from] bipolar [disorder]… she’s had manic episodes for years,” the friends said.

Dr. Diana Kirschner, an expert on bipolar disorder, confirmed that Britney Spears does in fact suffer from it. She explained: “People who show patterns of behavior like Britney are suffering from a dual diagnosis. They have both a substance abuse problem and a bipolar disorder or manic disorder.”

Another friend denied the rumours that Spears is suicidal, insisting that the star just needs help for her condition. “This is really a matter of her being unstable, not suicidal … she’s not balanced,” said the friend.

Dr. Kirschner added that the disorder “usually starts in young adulthood from age 18 through early twenties. Up until that point, the person appears to be pretty normal, but it’s like a ticking bomb.”

“When a person has this kind of problem,” Kirschner explained, “it’s very hard for them to be a good parent. The main thing is for the person to go through treatment and recover … But they generally have to hit bottom in order to turn around and recover. If the person is laughing wildly as they’re taken away in the ambulance (like Spears did), that does not indicate that there’s much connection with the consequences of their behavior.”
