Former Australian Big Brother contestant, Gordon “The Flash” Sloan has died in Beijing under mysterious circumstances.
Gordon, a larger-than-life character from one of the earlier Aussie Big Brother seasons and former boyfriend of Rogue Traders frontwoman, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, passed away in a Beijing hospital last week after falling into a coma on September 1st.
The 34-year-old reality star and architect was called a “free spirit” by family and friends during his funeral at Randwick’s Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Sydney, a day which was marred by the mystery still surrounding his death. Sloan’s family have denied the rumours which state that the “toxic substance” found in his blood stream was due to a heroin overdose, and one of the priests at the funeral even suggested that it was a result of his drink being “spiked”.
Family and friends have denied rumours that he suffered a heroin overdose, but everyone seemed to have a theory on how a “toxic substance” got into his blood – with one priest at the funeral telling The Daily Telegraph his drink had been “spiked”.
Good friend Dorian Farr said of the vivacious young man: “Gordon, you said you took on yourself and won, and that said it all… So here’s to Flash Gordon, our action hero – it’s been an honour and a priviledge to know you.”
His former flame, Natalie Bassingthwaighte flew in from Los Angeles to attend the funeral. Sloan’s old Big Brother contestant on the 2001 show, Gemma Gawned was also there to say a final farewell, as was the show’s serial host, Gretel Killeen, and a number of the reality show’s staff.
Gordon’s death is still under investigation in Beijing.
