Officials at the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, say she was unresponsive when she was taken from there to the hospital on Thursday.
A spokeswoman for the hotel says she checked in on Monday, and was supposed to check out tomorrow.
Witness reports are that CPR was in progress at the time. Smith was reportedly accompanied by her companion, Howard K. Stern and a bodyguard at the time.
Her lawyers made the announcement of her death.
Her 20-year-old son Daniel died in the hospital last year just three days after the birth of her latest baby’s.
