A Golden Globes Boycott?

Due to the continued strike of the Writer’s Guild of America (which has put many of the biggest shows on television on hold indefinitely), there’s been talk of a possible Golden Globes “boycott.”
A portion of the celebrities scheduled to attend the awards ceremony this season have apparently expressed their concern over the picket line that will be stationed near the red carpet. The celebs, which include Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl and Entourage actor Jeremy Piven, have said that if the writer’s strike is still going when the awards take place, they won’t bother showing up.
Here’s what some of the possible attendees had to say:
Katherine Heigl (nominated for Grey’s Anatomy): “I’m not crossing the picket line, not unless I’m contractually obliged to do, which, for the Golden Globes, I’m not.”
James McAvoy (Atonement): “I don’t think I’d want to do that. It’s an environment I wouldn’t want to stick my nose into. I’m not from this country and for me to stick my nose and throw my small weight around wouldn’t be right.”
David Cronenberg (Eastern Promises): “It would be very hard for me to cross a WGA picket line. Everybody will have the same problem. It’s very unfornuate and an issue that won’t go away.”
Glenn Close (Damages): “I would never cross a picket line.”
Jeremy Piven (Entourage): “I don’t know about whether or not I’ll be attending because to be honest with you, I don’t know a lot about the rules and limitations of what is happening. I need to look into it. Writers are kind of these unsung heroes. People don’t see how much these guys work and they’re just trying to cover their bases for themselves and for the future. I hope they get what they deserve and I’ll do anything I can to help that.”
I really can’t see how the people in charge have let this strike go on for so long. I mean, come on, people! Obviously they can’t possibly have their hit shows without the writers, so why not give them what they want? If this was a group of actors looking to up their salaries, they’d just be handed the cash and nothing else would be said, but because it’s the writers (a group of people seen to be lower on the food chain than actors), they get stomped on.ÂÂ
I hope these stars are fare-dinkum and really do boycott… some awards ceremony this is going to be with no stars!!
